Description 

Canvas is a cloud-based learning management system used by PGCC.  It is used to organize and deliver digital/online course materials and facilitate communication between instructors and students. It serves as a centralized platform for storing course content, assigning and grading assignments and quizzes, facilitating discussions, and providing access to course information from a variety of Internet connected devices including mobile.

When to use:  Use Canvas to deliver and manage all credit courses and select CE (continuing education) courses regardless of the modality. It may also be used for the storing and sharing of materials between faculty and other academic staff.

Training Delivery Method(s) 

On Demand and Daily Webinars:  PGCC has licensed the Premium Subscription Training Package for all faculty and staff . This package includes hour-long Zoom webinars and self- paced courses such as HE (HigherEducation) First Day Ready. Please use below for more information as well as step-by-step directions for accessing the training portal:  

HE First Day Ready:   All faculty teaching online asynchronous and hybrid courses are required to take HE First Day Ready. If you are interested in completing the training, please use the link below for accessing that self-paced training:

Who Has Access? 

  • All Credit Faculty

  • Select CE Faculty

  • Select Staff

How to Access Canvas? 

Access this system within the Employee Apps section of the myPGCC Portal.  

  1. Navigate to https://www.pgcc.edu/     
  2. Click "myPGCC" then select "Faculty and Staff"  
  3. Scroll down to view "Employee Apps"  
  4. Select  Canvas LMS icon to launch Canvas.

Additional Resources

  • All Canvas courses are equipped with links to “Canvas Resources for Faculty” in the Instructor Module and “Canvas Resources for Students” in the Canvas Start Here module.
  • Faculty, staff and students can also use the “?” tool to access a Canvas knowledge base full of support articles and training.  To access the knowledge base, click the Help icon “?”(blue question mark) in the global navigation bar while logged into Canvas which immediately launches the knowledge base with responses tailored to where you are in the system.
