Copyleaks is a plagiarism checking software that is available in Canvas as part of the assignment feature as well as a direct submit option for faculty.
Copyleaks has the following features:
- Paraphrased text detection
- Copy/paste upload
- AI generated texts
- Scans multiple files types (Images, Word, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint Slides, Pages for Mac, LaTex)
- Source code detection
There are two ways to check students work: Through Assignments (see below) and through Direct Submit - Click here for the Plagiarism Detection Direct Submit instructions.
How to add Copyleaks scan to an assignment
Step 1 - Go into the Canvas course. To add Copyleaks to an Assignment,
Go to the desired Module, click on the + to add content. Then, select Add Assignments -> Create Assignment
Give the Assignment Name. Click Add Item.
Step 2 - locate the created assignment in the Module, click on the Assignment Name then, click edit
Step 3 - To add the CopyLeaks plagiarism detection, change the assignment submission type to Online, and choose one of the following options: Text Entry, File Uploads
Step 4 - Select the Copyleaks Plagiarism Checker tool from the Plagiarism Review section. Setup your customize plagiarism settings for this assignment.
Step 5 - Save or Save & Publish your assignment. NOTE: After creating an assignment in Canvas, please wait several minutes before making the first submission. Canvas may need a few minutes to notify Copyleaks that the assignment has been created. To ensure Copyleaks properly recognizes the assignment, we recommend waiting a few minutes between creating the assignment and submitting the first assignment.
