How to Use Copyleaks, a Plagiarism Detection Software (Faculty)

Copyleaks is a plagiarism checking software that is available in Canvas as part of the assignment feature as well as a direct submit option for faculty.  

CopyLeaks has the following features:

  • Source code detection
  • Paraphrased text detection
  • Copy/paste upload
  • Additional Files Types (Images, Spreadsheets, PPTX, Pages for Mac, LaTex)

How to add CopyLeaks Framework to an Assignment 

Step 1 - Go into the course you want to add CopyLeaks to an Assignment. On the Navigation panel, select Assignments.

Step 2 - Click on the +Assignment button or select an assignment.

Step 3 - To add the CopyLeaks plagiarism framework, change the assignment submission type to Online, and choose one of the following options:  Text Entry, File Uploads

Step 4 - To start using the Plagiarism framework, select the Copyleaks Plagiarism Checker tool from the Plagiarism Review section. Setup your customize plagiarism settings for this assignment.

Step 5 - Save or Save & Publish your assignment.  NOTE: After creating an assignment in Canvas, please wait several minutes before making the first submission. Canvas may need a few minutes to notify Copyleaks that the assignment has been created. To ensure Copyleaks properly recognizes the assignment, we recommend waiting a few minutes between creating the assignment and submitting the first assignment.
