NetSupport School: How to Restrict Internet Access

Tags Net Support

While in classrooms with computers, students can be tempted to surf the Internet, which serves as a distraction from course instruction.  This knowledge article provides information on restricting Internet access with NetSupport School.

Step 1

You can view what Internet access is blocked by moving down to the fourth icon on the left navigation that looks like a globe with a magnifying glass.

  • Here you will see an approve and blocked list for internet access. The college has loaded a predetermined block internet list for instructors. Note at the bottom of the screen Block Restricted has a green checkmark next to it. This means that only the Internet locations listed under the Restricted Websites list are being blocked.

Step 2

Click on the Restrict All button and restrict all internet access during the class.

  • You can add an approved internet website by clicking the green + plus sign in the approved websites box and add the URL of the website. Students will have access to this website if you select the Approved Only selection at the bottom.
  • The same holds true for applications that are on the computer. At the bottom of the interface, you will see a list blocked applications. You can allow access to all applications by selecting Allow All. Or restrict the same way you do with internet access.

Bonus

You can view the actual student desktop by selecting the second icon on the left that looks like a computer monitor.View of Restricted Access list, Main menu, and view of student desktop

If you mouseover the small monitor display and wait a larger view of the monitor will display, giving you closer look at the student desktop.
