Open and Use a Shared Mailbox from Outlook on the Web

If you have full access permission to a shared mailbox, that appears in the address book, you can use Outlook on the Web or a desktop version of Outlook, to open that mailbox.

Why use shared mailboxes? They make it easy for a specific group of people to monitor and send email from a public email alias, like admin@pgcc.edu or library@pgcc.edu. When a person in the group replies to a message sent to the shared mailbox, the email appears to be from the shared mailbox, not from the individual user.

Enterprise Technology must create the shared mailbox and add your access, before you can use the shared mailbox.

How to Access a Shared Mailbox

The shared mailbox will appear in the Outlook client within (2) hours, after access rights are provided. For immediate access, use Outlook on the Web (http://mail.pgcc.edu).

The supported method for accessing mail and sending from shared mailboxes is through Outlook on the Web (http://mail.pgcc.edu).

  1. Log into Outlook on the Web (http://mail.pgcc.edu), using your own user name and password.
  2. Click on the icon containing your picture or initials in the upper right corner.
  3. Choose "Open Another Mailbox" from the list.
  4. Enter the Shared Mailbox name in the look-up field.

A new tab will open in your web browser, specifically for your shared mailbox. You can access and send email here.
