Microsoft PowerPoint: How to Use the Slide Master

A slide master adds consistency to your colors, fonts, headings, logos, and other styles, and helps unify the form of your presentation. Using the Slide Master is an easy way to adjust the look of an existing theme or make overall changes to all slides in your presentation. When you edit the Slide Master, all slides that are based on that master will contain those changes.

This knowledge article demonstrates how to use the Slide Master feature in Microsoft PowerPoint.


Step 1

Click the View tab then click Slide Master.

Step 2

If necessary, scroll up to Slide Master 1. To change the font color, select the text, click the font color drop-down and then choose a color.

The color is applied to all slides that are based on that master.

Step 3

To change the background color, right click and choose Format Background.

Step 4

The Format Background pane is displayed. Click the Color drop-down menu then choose the desired color. Note: Previous colors you've used will appear under Recent Colors.

The background color has been applied to all slides that are based on that master.

Step 5

Click Close Master View to exit the Slide Master.
