There are multiple methods you can use to search for courses. You can search by keywords, subject or perform an advanced search using specific criteria. Use the keyword search if you know the course prefix, e.g. INT-1010.
This knowledge article demonstrates how to search for courses using keywords.
Step 1
While logged into Owl Link, click Course Search on the Home page.
The Search for Courses and Course Sections screen appears.
Step 2
Type the course prefix, e.g. INT1010, in the Search for courses by keywords look-up field then press Enter. Note: It’s important to enter the courses without any spaces or hyphens/dashes. Also, you can search for multiple courses by separating them with spaces.
Note: When you perform a keyword search, the system will search for any of the following:
- Course name (subject and course number with varying delimiters, i.e. math101, math-101, math 101)
- Course title
- Course subject code
- Course subject description
- Course department code
- Course department description
- Course location code
- Course location description
- Course description
- Section name (subject/course/section number with varying delimiters, i.e. math10101, math-101-01, math 101 01)
- Section title
- Section department code
- Section department description
- Section location code
- Section location description
Step 3
The search results display. To narrow your search results, select a filter such as Terms. Note: You may need to click Show All Terms.
Step 4
Under Terms, select your desired term, e.g. Spring 2021 Semester.
Step 5
To view courses with Zero Cost Textbooks, select that check box under Course Types to apply the filter.
Zero Cost Textbooks courses are displayed.
Step 6
The search results display. Click View Available Sections for your desired course, e.g. INT-1010. If you wish to schedule this course, click Add Section to Schedule.
Step 7
The Section Details dialog appears. Click Add Section.
A notification message appears at the top of the screen.
Step 8
To return to the Course Search landing page, click the Back to Course Search link.
Note: After a course is planned, students must register. Please see the knowledge article "How to Plan, Schedule, Register for, and Drop Courses." A student is not enrolled in a course until they have completed the registration process.
