Windows Virtual Desktop: How to Access and Log into the Windows Virtual Desktop

Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) is a desktop virtualization service that runs in the PGCC Azure cloud. This service is connected to the on-prem environment to allow users to access core intranet resources and file systems. WVD is the next evolution in virtual desktop technology and is available for core functions, otherwise inaccessible from remote connections.

This knowledge article demonstrates how to access and log into the Windows Virtual Desktop.


Step 1

 Go to: http://wvd.pgcc.edu.

Step 2

If prompted, select your PGCC email account.

Step 3

Enter your PGCC email and password then click Sign in.

Step 4

Click the Employee Desktop icon. Note: If you do not get the Employee Desktop icon, and only see moving horizontal dots at the top of your screen, click the Reload this age button on your browser.

Step 5

The Access Local Resources dialog appears. Select the Don't ask me again for connections to this computer check box then click Allow. 

Note: Printing is only available to PGCC printers or through a redirect printer that creates a PDF which downloads it to your host machine’s Download folder.

Step 6

Enter your user name and password then click Submit.

The Employee Desktop appears which includes some basic applications and your drive mappings.

Note: This environment has a time-out feature. After two (2) hours of inactivity, you will be disconnected. Two (2) minutes before you are disconnected, you will receive a warning notice. After three (3) additional hours of inactivity, your disconnected session will close all programs and shut down.

Step 7

To end your session, click your name then click Sign Out.
